Poco x5 5G 120Hz AMOLED ๐Ÿ˜5000mAh โ‚น16,999 Budget Performance Phone from Poco

Design and build quality

The Poco X5 is not a direct sequel to a previous model. Last few days there was only a Pro version, and this year introduces a vanilla version alongside the new Pro.The two models are quite different. While the Poco X Five Pro aims to provide meaningfulupgrades, the X Five offers almost the same feature setas the X Four Pro, but at a lower price.I say almost because something’s got to give. And a couple of the features havebeen downgraded for the vanilla model. For the sake of savings.Let’s start off, though, with the design. The back panel is made of plastic witha frosted finish, and ours is in blue. The matte frame is made of plastic too.Probably the most notable accent is the large black patchwith a Poco logo next to the camera bump.

Display (6.67โ€ OLED) quality test

The screen is very similar to that of the X Four Pro.It’s a 667 inch OLED with a 1080presolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. The brightness is comparable here.We measured a maximum of around 460 knits with amanual brightness slider, and this can boost up to 730knits in auto mode if you need it.The quality of the display is also similar. It’s pretty good. The picture is sharp and contrasty, and the colors canbe accurate depending on the color mode you choose. There’s also no HDR support here, andof course, the 120 Hz refresh ratesmooths out your swiping and scrolling.Like the X four pro.It isn’t adaptive. If you enable 120 Hz, it won’t dialdown for the sake of energy savings. One of the features that’s been cut compared.

Single speaker quality test

Poco X5 Pro model is stereo speakers. You have a standard headphone jack andjust a single bottom firing speaker here. The loudness is good, but the sound quality isn’t.There’s hardly any bass and tinny sounding highs, but you’reto wake up and unlock the Poco X5.

Fingerprint Reader & Storage

There’s a side mounted fingerprint reader built intothe power button, and the phone comes with128 or 256 gigs of storage on board, and that is expandable through Micro SD.

Android 12, MIUI 13

The interface of the Poco X Five is Xiaomi’sMIUI 13, based on Android Twelve, rather than thelatest MIUI 14, which is not that different anyway. So the user experience here is prettymuch the same that you’d have gottenon last year’s Poco and Redmi phones. We have a whole video dedicated to MIUI 13, which youcan check out if you’d like to learn more about it.

Snapdragon 695 5G

Another familiar aspect of the PocoM Five is the chipset. It’s a qualcomm Snapdragon 695, the same asyou’d find in the X Four Pro andmany other midrangers from last year.It isn’t a high performance chipset, but it’s solidenough for the class and provides 5G connectivity.Maybe its biggest downside is thatit doesn’t support 4K video capture.

Battery life (5000 mAh) and charging speed test

The Poco X Five has a large 5000 milliamphour battery, just like last year’s Pro model. The battery life here is good, butnot as great as some competitors. The phone earned an endurance rating of106 hours in our proprietary tests.Unlike the Pro versions, you get 33watt charging here rather than 67.It’s not slow though. With the bundled adapter, we were able to charge the PocoX Five from zero to 63% in half an hour.

Main cameras
Daylight image quality, rear cameras

Now onto the cameras, which have also seen abit of a downgrade compared to the Pro.Rather than a 108 megapixel main cam here is 48.The other two cameras are the same though aneight megapixel Ultra Wide and a two megapixel macro.Twelve megapixel photos from the main cam are okay.

Low-light image quality, rear cameras

The detail level is respectable and the colors arewell saturated and accurate, but there’s plenty of noiseand the dynamic range is fairly limited.Portraits are done well with accurate edgedetection and convincing looking background blur.Eight megapixel photos from the UltraWide are adequate for the class. The detail level is decent and thecolors look nice, but again there’s noticeablenoise and limited dynamic range. Two megapixel closeups from themacro cam aren’t very good. There’s not a lot of detailand the dynamic range is narrow. There is no automatic night mode available here, but lowlight photos taken with the main camare okay, while shadows are soft and noisyand some highlights are blown out.The dynamic range is acceptable.Turning on the dedicated night mode makesfor a more balanced exposure and improvesthe development of shadows and highlights. There is softness in some scenes, but is stillan overall improvement over the auto mode shots. The ultrawide cam’s lowlight photos aren’t great they’resoft, noisy, and the colors are desaturated.

Selfie camera image quality,Video quality, rear cameras

Selfies from the 13 megapixel frontfacing cam are all right. They are noisy, but the detailand dynamic range are decent.1080p video from the main cam is adequate

Conclusion

for the resolution, with a decent amount ofdetail, high contrast and saturated colors. The colors are on the cold side, though, andthere is plenty of sharpening and limited dynamic range.1080p footage from the Ultra Widecam is lower in quality. It’s soft with lower contrast and washed out colors. There doesn’t seem to be muchin the way of video stabilization.Even though video clips seem to be cropped compared tothe stills, they’re shaky, so that’s the Poco X Five.
